just finished my week of training at nike. we went over their 11 maxims (which are pretty cool). we were told to think about how we could apply the maxims to our daily work as a sales associate. This got me thinking about my own personal maxims.
my current maxim for myslef has been “its what you make it”.
I had the “Aha!” moment on a drive to portland with Joey Mucha, an AMA colleague of mine. As we were driving, I was talking about my previous summer internship with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. I talked about how those who got the most out of the internship were those who took the initiative to get involved in more than just what was required. My co-worker got involved in group ticket sales and variety of events. he came in early, got to know people better, and our supervisor eventually took him under his wing. I did more than expected, but i didn’t go the extra mile this guy did. I learned my lesson. from this experience, i realized that each internship, each job, getting to know a professor, an introduction to someone in your field…whatever you do, Its what you make it. It can valuable if you put in the effort to make it valuable. It’ll be a waste if you just sit there and expect it to do the work for you. make it worthwhile
